Glamorous two-doors spotlighted on RPM

With summer well and truly here, the motoring spotlight on RPM this week falls on two recent, glamorous arrivals to our shores.

The first is Audi’s sleek and sexy A5 Cabriolet, which gets a canvas hood and can be transformed into a gorgeous open-top convertible at the push of a button. We put the 3,0-litre TDI version to the test.

Thanks to its low-slung shape, Renault’s Mégane Coupé is no less of a head-turner. The sexy two-door also has nicely turned out interior on its side. But will the 1,6-litre engine have enough urge to provide the sporty driving experience that sharp styling promises?

A vehicle that’s definitely not short of poke is Land Rover’s latest, MY2010 Range Rover Sport. The substantially revised SUV was launched in South Africa last week, but RPM drove it in Scotland some time ago. And yes, it’s still a consummate performer, on and off the road.

Finally, we find out more about the high-tech business that is developing and producing tyres for the increasingly sophisticated vehicles of the 21st Century during a visit to Continental Tyre’s research and development facility in Hannover, Germany.

RPM’s premiere episode this week is broadcast on Wednesday night at 20h30 on SuperSport 6. It repeats on Thursday morning at 07h30 on MNET and SS2. There are various repeats if you miss the first few transmissions. Additional, late-schedule repeats can also be expected.
